This sautéed asparagus recipe is a keeper because it takes only 15 minutes to make and involves just about 5 ingredients that you’d already have in your kitchen. But it tastes like a million bucks! The asparagus tastes fresh and it still retains it’s crunch.
We were greedily wolfing these down because they’re so addictive and you know what makes them addictive? Brown Butter! I’m a diehard fan of brown butter because it has the superpower to transform any dish into an impressive gourmet creation. It has a nutty flavor that adds a different dimension altogether. Combine that with garlic and a little hint of chili and you’ll end up with the most delicious, buttery, addictive easy asparagus recipe you’ve ever found!
Regardless of which asparagus recipe you follow, the key is to ensure that you don’t overcook it. Asparagus tastes best when it still has that crunch. It should be tender but still crisp. The color of the cooked asparagus is another indication. When properly cooked, it should be bright green. If it’s grey it’s overcooked. The asparagus stalk should not completely bend after it’s cooked but rather still have some snap to it.
While there are plenty of ways to cook asparagus, I find that sautéing it is the quickest method while still ensuring that it retains its texture. For this recipe simply heat up a frying pan over high heat and add the butter. Allow the butter to melt and brown a little before adding the garlic. Let the garlic cook for a minute and then toss in the asparagus. Mix to ensure the butter coats the asparagus stalks evenly. Add the chili flakes, salt and pepper and stir. Sauté for 5 minutes and finish with lemon juice.
Asparagus tastes best in simple preparations. When there aren’t too many heavy flavors involved, the refreshing taste of asparagus shines through.

Sautéed Garlic Asparagus
- 1 pound asparagus woody part of the stems removed
- 3 garlic cloves finely chopped
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/4 tsp chili flakes
- Salt and Pepper to taste
